Our story

Surgeons, doctors, business leaders and volunteers working against global blindness.

Who we are

Canadian Eyesight Global, formerly Canadian Eyesight International, is a registered Canadian charitable organization made up of surgeons, doctors, business leaders and many volunteers concerned about global blindness. We are individual Canadians who care about people in India and other developing nations who are especially vulnerable to blindness, and about those who have already lost their sight.

Blindness has many causes, including nutrition, sanitation and trauma, so there are many ways to help. Eighty percent of the world’s blindness can be prevented with nutrition, sanitation, antibiotics or surgery. By working with other health organizations and with governments, we believe preventable blindness can be eliminated.

What we aim to do

Our objective is to help people who cannot help themselves, and to give people who are blind or visually impaired real support. For over twenty years we have worked with partner doctors in India and other developing countries to improve their facilities and treatment programs.

The problem, in numbers

These are the figures we keep in front of us.

Every second

285 million
People are visually impaired worldwide. About 40 million are blind and 250 million have low vision.
90%
Of the world’s visually impaired people live in developing countries.
